Serdang, 14 August 2025 – In conjunction with the national month celebration, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organized the Jalur Gemilang Flag Hoisting Competition at the department level (PTJ) across UPM. The objective of the program was to instill the spirit of patriotism among the campus community and to cultivate love and appreciation for the country.

A total of twenty-three (23) departments participated in the competition, including the Bursar’s Office, which took the opportunity to be part of this meaningful event. The Bursar’s Office was selected for judging on 14 August 2025, from 4:00 to 4:20 PM, held at the Centralized Operations Management Finance Division (BPOB).

A panel of 15 judges, comprising staff members from PKKSSAAS and led by its Director, Mr. Husalshah Rizal Hussian, were present to evaluate the participants. For this year's competition, the Bursar’s Office showcased a fashion show featuring traditional Malaysian attire with a creative twist by the office staff. Uniquely, all costumes were made from recycled materials, creatively repurposed into colorful and eye-catching outfits. Among the standout designs were:

• A Baju Kurung made from pages of a novel,

• A Baju Melayu crafted from burlap sacks,

• A Cheongsam made from second-hand clothing decorated with old CDs,

• A Sari sewn using pre-loved shawls, and

• A Kadazan Dusun outfit accessorized with a traditional food cover (tudung saji).

Adding to the excitement, the Bursar’s Office management team also participated in the fashion show, donning songket-themed outfits, showcasing strong support and adding festive cheer to the event.

The program continued with a lively boria performance by staff, followed by a tour of the creative exhibition corner, where judges viewed artistic works made by employees. Highlights included a Jalur Gemilang flag crafted from bread clips and ice cream sticks, as well as models of iconic Malaysian landmarks such as the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC) and Merdeka 118 Tower.

The joyful event concluded with a group photo session between the Bursar’s Office staff and the judges. This competition significantly ignited a stronger sense of unity and national pride in anticipation of Malaysia's 68th Independence Day celebration.
