SERDANG - 6 September 2024 : The Office of the Bursar, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has held a Green Sustainability Benchmark Visit to the Office of the Industry and Community Network Division, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Penang.

The visit led by Puan Izariahwati Binti Mohd Isa, Bursar of UPM and 7 officers and staff of the Bursar's Office aimed to understand and learn best practices in green sustainability management towards realizing the "GREEN OFFICE" concept implemented at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

The delegation's visit was welcomed by Professor Dr. Azlan Amran, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Industry and Community Network with Dr. Normaliza Binti Abdul Manaf, Sejahtera Campus Coordinator, USM. Also participating are 2 officers who manage USM's Industry and Community Network Division (Bjim).

The delegation followed a presentation session on USM's green sustainability initiatives, including projects such as waste management, the use of solar technology and environmental conservation efforts. Various efforts have been implemented by USM such as holding campaigns and audits of green sustainability practices at each PTJ. The 'Green Office Guidelines & Green Scholarships' (GreenOffice@USM, GreenDesa@USM) are also distributed to all Sustainability Officers as a reference source in carrying out various activities related to sustainability in each PTJ at USM.

Currently, USM is also continuing the agenda of the Prosperous Campus initiative as a secretariat based on student involvement, volunteering projects such as eliminating polystyrene and reducing the use of plastic as well as offering several programs at the first degree and master's level.

As a result of the visit, the Delegation of the UPM Bursar's Office got an initial insight into the successful use of green technology at USM that can be adapted to improve energy efficiency and resource management at the Bursar's Office.

This tour not only provides practical guidance to improve green sustainability practices but also fosters a culture of environmental awareness within the organization. The experience gained from Universiti Sains Malaysia is expected to help the Bursar's Office in planning and implementing a more effective sustainability strategy.

At the end of the visit session, the two representatives exchanged souvenirs as a sign of appreciation and thanks for the hospitality and partnership that has been held
