Serdang, 31 July 2025 – In line with the implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) beginning December 2024, several changes have been introduced involving job grades and structural appointments. Among these changes is the option for affected officers to convert their appointments to the N Scheme, as well as an increased emphasis on the requirement for all accountants to be registered as members of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) – a key criterion for career advancement and promotion.
In proactive response to this requirement, the Bursar’s Office of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) collaborated with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) to organize a briefing session titled "MIA Awareness Session on Chartered Accountancy Pathway", held on 31 July 2025 at the Briefing Hall, UPM Serdang, starting at 10:00 AM.
The session was delivered by an official representative from MIA, who clearly explained the importance of registering as a MIA member and the advantages of holding the title of Chartered Accountant (CA). Among the benefits highlighted were enhanced professional credibility, industry recognition, and access to continuous professional development opportunities.
Participants were also given practical guidance on:
The process and method for registering as an MIA member
Required supporting documents
The requirements and criteria to qualify as an MIA Mentor
Tips and strategies for completing the MIA online registration portal
An interactive Q&A session followed, where participants were encouraged to ask questions regarding membership and were given the opportunity to attempt online registration on the MIA portal with guidance from the MIA representatives. The presence of newly admitted members and those in the process of applying for membership added significant value to the session, particularly in preparing them to meet all necessary registration requirements.
The organisation of this session reflects the Bursar’s Office’s ongoing commitment to supporting the career development of UPM accountants, in alignment with evolving professional demands and ongoing transformation within the public service structure.
