Serdang, 29 July 2025 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its Bursar's Office, organized a briefing program titled “Briefing on the University’s Takaful Protection Plan for Vehicles, Buildings, and Equipment, including Additional Coverage and the Claims Process and Procedures”, held on Tuesday at Lecture Hall, School of Business and Economics 11, Block E, Ground Floor, UPM Serdang Campus.
The program, held in collaboration with Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, aimed to enhance understanding of takaful protection and more effective claims mechanisms in the context of higher education institution asset management.
Running from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the session was conducted both physically and online, attended by staff and officers directly involved in managing the university’s assets.
The event began with registration at 9:00 a.m., followed by a prayer recitation and opening remarks by Mr. Mohd ‘Akhi Bin Abu Bakar, Head of Asset Management Finance Division, Bursar’s Office UPM. In his speech, he stressed the importance for officers to thoroughly understand the contents of the protection policies undertaken by the university, in order to ensure that claims can be made efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with the correct procedures.
The next speech was delivered by Mr. Mohd Zaidi Mohamad Saad, Corporate Agency Manager of Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, who briefly introduced Etiqa’s role as a comprehensive and customer-friendly takaful provider. He also emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships between institutions such as UPM and takaful providers to ensure sustainable and competitive risk management.

This program gave participants the opportunity to gain the latest information directly from industry experts, as well as a platform for constructive two-way dialogue to improve UPM’s asset management system. Participants welcomed the briefing, describing it as highly beneficial, especially for officers responsible for official vehicles, fixed assets, and university premises.
Overall, the briefing reflects UPM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its asset management system through strategic collaboration with industry players, in line with best governance practices and the principle of accountability.
