NARRATIVE OF KNOWLEDGE: IQRA: SUBSTANTIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Serdang, 22 March 2024 – A Read@Bursar Knowledge Narrative program was held last Friday afternoon. 'IQRA: SUPERIOR INSTRUCTIONS' is a title chosen and analyzed by Dr. Nik Farhan Mustapha, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, UPM.

In general, Dr. Nik Farhan Mustapha divides the tendency of human nature into four characteristics namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. He related the historic event where the Prophet SAW received his first revelation when he was visited by the angel Jibril a.s. who taught him to read the first five verses in surah al-Alaq which begins with the word Iqra'. He also referred to the importance of reading from a book titled The Power Of Reading written by Stephen D. Krashen, 2004.

He pointed out that there is a difference between western writing that reading is just for the purpose of obtaining information only compared to the wider Islamic perspective that when we read, it should be followed by understanding, taste and charity. He suggested that after reading, we take benefit and lessons from it and do good deeds.

The one-hour Read@Bursar Narrative of Knowledge program ended with advice and encouragement to all attendees to continue reading to gain knowledge and act with beneficial knowledge from it. The science narrative ceremony also ended with a prize giving ceremony to the winners of the Malaysia Day crossword puzzle.
