Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)’s achievement as the overall first runner-up at the 46th Malaysia Inter-University Staff Sports Championship (SUKUM) 2026 was further enhanced by the commendable performance of staff from the UPM Bursar’s Office, who contributed to the university contingent’s success in the prestigious championship.

Held from 6 to 15 August 2026 at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Terengganu, the championship brought together more than 3,443 athletes and officials from 20 public universities, who competed fiercely across 32 sporting events.

Beyond serving as a platform to test the capabilities and fitness of university staff, the championship also played an important role in fostering relationships and strengthening the spirit of unity and camaraderie among staff of Malaysian public universities.

Adding to the pride, eight staff members from the UPM Bursar’s Office were entrusted to represent the university in various sporting events. Their participation demonstrated the commitment of Bursar’s Office staff not only to fulfilling their professional responsibilities but also to actively contributing to the university’s sporting achievements.

Sharifah Marlia binti Syed Hardan – Women’s Futsal
Mohamad Halim bin Mohamad Wahab – Pétanque
Mohd Asri bin Abdullah – Pétanque
Abdul Hakim bin Abdul Halim – Men’s Futsal
Remey anak Tahir – Badminton
Nur Ezrin bin Abdol Rahim – Volleyball

Of the eight representatives, two successfully contributed medals to the UPM contingent in their respective events.

Sharifah Marlia binti Syed Hardan, representing the UPM Women’s Futsal team, contributed a bronze medal, while Mohamad Halim bin Mohamad Wahab also secured a bronze medal for the UPM contingent in the Men’s Triple event in Pétanque.

These achievements reflect the fighting spirit, discipline and strong commitment of Bursar’s Office staff in bringing honour to UPM on the inter-university sporting stage.

UPM’s overall achievement as first runner-up, with a total haul of 44 medals comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze medals, together with the outstanding performance of the Bursar’s Office representatives at the 46th SUKUM, is hoped to inspire the university community to further strengthen the culture of sports, pursue excellence and elevate UPM’s reputation to greater heights in the future.

For the next edition, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) will take over as the host of the 47th SUKUM, providing another opportunity for staff of Malaysian public universities to showcase their sporting excellence and create new achievements on the national university sports stage.
